Using an eSIM in the UK
For the UK, choose a plan for the parts of the country you will visit, then check data and validity. London alone needs a different coverage check from an Edinburgh stay followed by the Highlands. Also check your existing mobile plan before buying, as its included destinations and roaming limits may already meet your needs.
A travel data eSIM does not automatically supply a UK phone number or ordinary calls and SMS. If you need to call a guesthouse or rental company, confirm those functions separately. Check your device model, eSIM support and carrier lock before payment.
Read the exact product instructions before setting it up. Purchase, profile installation and the start of paid validity can be different events. Verify whether you can install before travelling, when the package starts and whether there is a deadline for first use. Keep the instructions available without needing to reopen the seller’s app.
Mobile networks and coverage in the UK
EE, O2, Vodafone and Three are the network names you will encounter.
Vodafone and Three now sit within VodafoneThree, while coverage tools and plan descriptions can still use the individual names. Confirm your specific package’s access rather than assuming the merger gives every travel eSIM identical service.
Check the postcode of your accommodation and whether the map describes indoor or outdoor reception. For the Highlands, rural Wales or a Lake District drive, inspect the route and overnight stops separately from the nearest city. A national population coverage figure cannot tell you whether a particular valley or road has service.

Geographical overview. The shading does not show mobile coverage or which destinations a plan includes.
Coverage maps use predictions, and local terrain, buildings and congestion can alter the result. Save rail tickets and walking or driving routes offline. A 5G label does not guarantee continuous reception on a train or in a basement hotel room.
Choose a plan for your trip
| Your trip |
Selection priority |
| Short London break |
Cover maps, transport, messages and bookings through the final airport transfer. |
| Longer city stay with work |
Check hotspot permission and any separate tethering allowance. |
| UK and continental Europe |
Confirm the UK and every onward country before choosing one regional package. |
Use Wi-Fi for larger downloads if you want a smaller fixed package to last. Photo backups, video meetings and laptop updates can use much more data than route checks. Read the speed and fair-use rules before choosing an unlimited offer for remote work.
For onward travel, compare eSIM plans for France and the Europe eSIM comparison. Check the UK and every continental stop explicitly in a regional package. A Europe label alone does not settle the coverage list, and a UK-only plan should not be assumed to work after crossing the Channel.
Compare eSIM plans for the UK
Set minimum duration and data in the comparison and sort the matching offers by price. Compare price per GB only among packages that cover your whole stay. Check whether a longer validity or a later top-up is the better fit for your dates.
Review the eSIM providers and their conditions, then verify local network access, calls, activation timing, hotspot and refund rules. Choose the offer that meets your actual route and usage needs.
