Using an eSIM in New Zealand
For New Zealand, compare the network along your driving route as carefully as the data allowance. An Auckland city break and a campervan journey through the South Island need different checks. Choose enough validity for both islands if you are travelling between them, including transfer days when you may still need maps and booking details.
You can compare international travel eSIMs with local visitor products. Spark offers visitor connectivity through SIM and eSIM options, but package features differ. Check whether the exact offer includes a New Zealand number, calls and SMS or only data. Confirm that your phone is unlocked and supports the network as well as eSIM.

Coverage at a town does not establish coverage at a trailhead or throughout the drive. Maps indicate predicted service, and conditions in valleys, buildings or moving vehicles can differ.

For days without accommodation Wi-Fi, budget separately for video calls, photo backups and laptop updates. Check hotspot permission and an unlimited plan’s speed policy. If you expect to top up, confirm whether that adds validity as well as data. Use Wi-Fi for larger downloads when working with a smaller allowance.
If New Zealand is part of a longer journey, compare eSIM plans for Australia with a regional offer that expressly includes both countries. For a Bali stop, check eSIM plans for Indonesia too. An Oceania or Asia label alone is insufficient. Compare the whole trip price and confirm whether the allowance is shared across all stops.
