Using an eSIM in Indonesia
For Indonesia, start with the islands on your itinerary and the type of service you need. A travel data eSIM and a local visitor product can have different registration, phone-number and activation arrangements. Do not choose a domestic offer solely by its data allowance if you cannot complete its registration as a visitor.
Local registration can involve your passport and your phone’s IMEI. Telkomsel’s tourist service specifies both, while its general eSIMs have different eligibility rules. Confirm the process for your product and stay length. International roaming eSIMs use their seller’s arrangements, so do not assume the same registration rules.
Check device compatibility and when validity starts. Install before departure only if the package supports this without consuming days needed in Indonesia. Save setup details offline. Mobile networks and coverage in Indonesia
The major operator groups include Telkomsel, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and XLSMART, formed from XL Axiata and Smartfren. You may still see familiar consumer network names in a travel package. Read its precise network information rather than assuming a company merger gives every visitor access to all associated networks.
Check Jakarta and southern Bali separately from a route through Java, a Lombok stay or a trip to smaller islands. National availability does not establish reception at a specific villa, dive base or inland guesthouse. Ask which local network the package uses and inspect the places where you will actually spend time.

A smaller fixed allowance can fit if large uploads and entertainment stay on Wi-Fi. An unlimited package may still be unsuitable for long video meetings after its fast-data allowance is used.

Check whether the data is shared throughout the trip and when the validity countdown starts. Separate country packages may fit better if you spend very different lengths of time in each place.
