Which free eSIM is useful for what?

For a short arrival buffer, look at a one-time trial. For a recurring backup, Firsty is the clearest ad-funded option in this overview. Holafly’s recurring allowance is a benefit after a qualifying purchase. None of these is an unrestricted, permanently free high-speed travel plan.

Checked: 21 October 2026. We compare provider-published terms, not our own network tests. “No card” is stated only where the provider confirms it; unknown requirements remain labelled. Availability can depend on your destination, device and account.

Free data at a glance

The first five entries are trials or ad-funded data without a required plan purchase. The last two have additional conditions. Select a provider for the practical details.

Instabridge Mobile Free (US)1 GB in the first month; separate US mobile serviceFurther reward data varies; no fixed recurring GB promise hereAddress and credit-card details for identity verification.

“Not verified” does not mean that a card is required. It means the public sources did not settle that point. Check the actual €0 checkout before proceeding. Trial availability also does not guarantee that every offer appears in our plan search.

The catches in everyday use

Firsty: repeatable, but you keep earning your data

Reaching the daily maximum takes up to 18 ads; a full balance must be partly used before more can be earned. That makes it useful for occasional essentials, but fiddly for continuous use. Germany is an eligible signup country; a supported phone number is needed. Ignore older descriptions based on minutes of free access. Firsty Free rules.

Nomad: a useful arrival trial with a redemption deadline

The trial activates at the destination, or automatically 15 days after redemption if unused. Do not claim it months ahead. Hotspot is supported, but claiming the trial removes eligibility for later first-time promotions. There is no daily refill. Trial terms.

GigSky: small standard trial, a larger Europe offer

Check the exact regional trial in the app: the Europe promotion is larger than the standard allowance. These are useful connection checks, not a week of carefree video use. Treat the expiry and activation screen as part of the offer; redeem close to your trip. Europe offer.

Roamless: money credit, not a guaranteed 500 MB everywhere

Create an account with email or a supported social login, then install the eSIM. The starter balance buys different data volumes at different destination rates. Separate promo-code rewards can expire even though the standard trial credit does not. Account credit is not a monthly gift. Reward rules.

GoMoWorld: check your destination first

The headline “1 GB free” is not universal: official country pages show smaller trials too. A one-day window makes this mainly an arrival or setup test. We could not verify a general right to repeat it, the exact new-user restriction or a card-free signup promise. Do not plan on a fresh gift for every trip.

Holafly: recurring backup after a purchase

Keep the eSIM on its original phone: deleting it loses the benefit. No hotspot or rollover. Detailed terms limit access to 12 months and allow checks after weeks of inactivity. Eligible short-trip purchases start on 16 February 2026; monthly plans have separate eligibility. Check coverage in the app. Always On terms.

Instabridge: distinguish US Mobile Free from a paid Pro trial

The documented Mobile Free offer is a separate US service, not a global travel allowance. Extra data can come from rewards, ads or games, adding effort. The Pro trial is different: its terms provide for paid conversion after seven days or the 1 GB trial allowance, with a cancellation deadline. Do not select Pro just to claim “free” data. Service terms.

Card benefits can be repeatable — but not for everyone

GigSky’s Visa offers require an eligible card and card details. Amounts, destinations and repeat use depend on the issuing country and card programme. One concrete example: eligible US-issued Visa Signature/Infinite cards offer 1/3 GB for 15 days, with the standard global benefit redeemable once every 365 days. This is not a promise for German Visa cards. Check your own card in the app. US programme terms · Other Visa programmes.

What we do not count as a free data plan

  • Yesim: the current trial page charges US$0.60 for 500 MB / 1 day. A cheap test is not a free offer. Current trial.
  • Textr: its free-data landing page is explicitly marked “Promotion ended”. We do not list it as an active trial. Promotion status.
  • Free eSIM installation, cashback and purchase bonuses: a free profile alone contains no promised data. Rewards that require spending or referrals are not an unconditional starter allowance.

We have not established a generally available free data offer for Airalo in this check. An older Mastercard result did not lead to a currently redeemable offer. Likewise, we do not turn isolated blog claims or old voucher codes into guaranteed offers. This overview covers the documented options among providers we track, not every local mobile-network trial worldwide.

How to make a small free allowance last

  1. Install over Wi-Fi before departure. Check device compatibility, carrier lock, eligible countries and the exact activation trigger.
  2. Save offline maps and tickets. Disable cloud-photo uploads, app updates and video autoplay on mobile data.
  3. Check the final price, payment-details request and renewal setting. A trial with automatic paid renewal needs more attention than a prepaid gift.
  4. Use the travel eSIM for mobile data and check roaming settings separately for your home SIM. Free travel data does not cover your home operator’s roaming charges.
  5. For video calls, uploads or reliable laptop work, budget for a paid package. A hotspot allowance is a separate condition.

Our practical assessment: ad-funded access asks for repeated attention; tiny trials demand data discipline; card and purchase benefits add eligibility checks. Choose the inconvenience you can live with, rather than comparing the word “free” alone. For reduced-speed plans, see our Unlimited and fair-use guide.
